Part 1 The Survivor
Caught in the upper ionosphere surrounding Darus Prime. The last escape pod from the Lords Arbiter had been spinning out of control, pinning its occupants to the outer hull. Then from somewhere outside there had been a bump and the grinding mechanical sounds of another craft grasping the spinning world, finally resting its momentum. This sudden absence of momentum set the occupants free, only there was no gasp of relief or whispered thanks instead as they floated in hallowed silence a mist of their blood soaked the lone survivor as she slept in the soft embrace of zero gravity.
Only all that seemed so long ago now and amongst the concerned faces tending wounds and wiping away the blood from her face was the General. No, but it couldn’t be as she was dead, the storm of missiles and vacuum of space had seen to that.
As the jigsaw pieces of consciousness returned the faces disappeared replaced by a clinically clean room, its white furniture and décor blinding to the sleep bound eyes of its single occupant. Propped on one elbow the occupant slowly sat up appraising the room in more detail. There was little to see but what was obvious was that the door was shielded and a guard standing sentry outside.
There was something else, though. Something that danced at the edge of her recollection. And then from the cold frigid depths it came. A voice that sounded like paper tearing. With a gasp, desire for the voice consumed her. The voice that promised so much more than the chattel around her. A voice that believed in her and made her strong. Made her part of something. Something that as state born embryo she could never have, family.
It made her part of the Kin.
About the Author
Born in London within the sounds of Bo Bells which makes me a Cockney. Moved to Essex which makes me an Essex boy. Married a beautiful Essex girl and have been dancing with her around a handbag for over thirty years . Moved to Kent and that made me a Kentish man and now we are in Suffolk which apparently makes me a Tractor Boy.
Love my family and friends and I seem to have a never ending creative well of schemes and adventures that keeps everyone amused, befuddled and exasperated.
On the Serious side my IT consultancy skills and knowledge are extensive and have kept me in business for a long time. My writing keeps me sane (mostly) and on occasion I have even been known to play a guitar or two.
But never ever ask me to cook, feed me or get me wet after midnight
